Edgar Penollar
Financial Director


Edgar was appointed Group Finance Director of Sterling Insurance Group Limited in June 2007.

He joined Sterling in June 1997 as Financial Controller of the non-life company and was appointed Finance Director in September 1998. He progressed within Sterling to Group Financial Controller and then onto Head of Group Reporting. He has been active in the Group's corporate finance activities, taking the lead role in the disposal of the Lloyd's broker in 2004. He is the Chairman of the Investment Committee and is a member of the Group Risk Committee and Audit Committee. He has been instrumental in the implementation of the ICA framework across the Group.

Edgar has a Masters of Economics degree from the Macquarie University . He trained with Coopers & Lybrand in Sydney and qualified as a member with Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia. He specialised in insurance and financial services on joining C&L in 1989. He came to the UK on secondment with C&L in 1994 working on insurance clients in the UK and across Europe. He was involved with insurance company transactions whilst on a 6 month transfer to the Corporate Finance division of C&L before joining Sterling. He is involved in the Solvency II programme for the Sterling Group.
